A cartoon mystery about some missing fins and one extremely patient turtle.
Finnegan usually lost track of time while exploring the pond. One morning, he seemed to have lost something much more important: his fins. He looked left, looked right and made an alarming number of circles.
It all began one sunny morning when Finnegan woke up feeling rather unusual. He wriggled and squirmed but couldn't find his fins. Perplexed, he swam around in circles, searching high and low for his missing appendages. To his dismay, they were nowhere to be found.
Finnegan's fellow koi, gathered in a huddle, watched with amusement and concern. They had never seen a fish without fins before! Finnegan's friend, Mary, approached him with a giggle, trying to stifle her laughter. "Finnegan, how on earth did you manage to misplace your fins?" she asked, struggling to hold back her mirth.
He searched among the pebbles and plants, turning up shiny stones, a fallen twig and a leaf that looked almost like a fin if he squinted. None of them improved his steering.
He bumped a lily stem, startled the dragonflies and tangled himself in a strand of pond weed. The others offered suggestions from a safe distance. Finnegan began to suspect that “Have you checked behind you?” was not useful advice.
Determined to solve the mystery, Finnegan sought the wisdom of the wise old turtle, Timothy. Timothy was known for his vast knowledge of pond secrets and had a knack for solving puzzles. With a wrinkled smile, Timothy listened to Finnegan's tale of the missing fins, nodding sagely.
"My dear Finnegan," Timothy said, his voice filled with a mix of amusement and wisdom, "Have you ever looked closely at your sides?" Finnegan, puzzled, examined himself closely. To his surprise, he discovered that his fins had been tucked away snugly against his body all along!
Overjoyed, Finnegan swam triumphantly through the water, fins billowing in the current. The other koi cheered, their laughter transforming into applause. Finnegan's misadventure had turned into a moment of self-discovery and comic relief for all.
Finnegan thanked Timothy and swam home, making a point of stretching his fins first. The next morning, Mary asked whether he had brought all his equipment. He checked both sides before answering.
