Tancho Goromo combine a head-restricted red marking with the dark edging or shading associated with Goromo. The defining red pattern is on the head, with no additional red plates along the body. The overlay can make the mark appear darker than the simple bright red spot of a Tancho Kohaku.

How to Identify Tancho Goromo
- One red-based marking on the head and no other red body pattern.
- Goromo-style shading within that head marking.
- A light, non-metallic body providing contrast.
Compare Similar Varieties
Compare Tancho Kohaku for a plain red head marking without Goromo overlay. Tancho Goshiki has a netted background, rather than the clear light ground expected here. A separate head spot plus additional red body pattern is a Maruten-style arrangement, not a Tancho pattern with red confined to the head.
Choosing and Observing Tancho Goromo
Look at the head marking's position, edge, and relationship to the eyes, while judging the body and fins separately. A circular mark is an aesthetic preference, not a health requirement. Claims of rarity do not remove the need for seller records and quarantine. Ask for recent photographs because a young head pattern is not guaranteed to remain unchanged.
