A comic fantasy about a fish finding her place at an accounting firm.
Kiki wanted a change of scenery. When a local accounting firm advertised for a clerk, she decided that living in a pond was no reason to miss an opportunity. She submitted an application and waited for the reply with considerably less patience than a fish ought to have.
To her surprise, she got the job. This was no ordinary office: water channels ran between the desks, and Kiki’s workstation sat beside a little pool. She soon discovered that humans had almost as many opinions about lunch as the fish back home.
Phones and keyboards took practice. Her coworkers helped her find a way to use them, and Kiki repaid the favor by delivering files through the office channels. She was still learning, but she was already the quickest clerk between departments.
Kiki's hard work and determination paid off when she was given an important task: reconciling the company's accounts for the year. She worked tirelessly, double-checking every number and making sure everything was in order.
When the company's boss reviewed Kiki's work, he was impressed with her attention to detail and offered her a promotion. Kiki was thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to advance in her career.
Back at the pond, her friends asked what an accounting clerk actually did. “Kept everything balanced,” Kiki said. For once, nobody could think of a fish joke she had not already heard at work.
