Yamabuki Ogon are single-color metallic yellow or gold koi. Their luster and clear color make them conspicuous against darker pond water. The yellow tone varies among individuals, so the variety is defined by its overall color and metallic finish rather than one exact shade.

How to Identify Yamabuki Ogon
- A yellow-to-gold body with continuous metallic luster.
- No white ground dividing the yellow into separate pattern plates.
- A single-color impression rather than a yellow-and-black Utsuri pattern.
Compare Similar Varieties
Compare Kigoi for non-metallic yellow and Orenji Ogon for metallic orange. Doitsu Hariwake has colored pattern areas on a platinum ground. A bright photographic flash can obscure the distinction between a yellow fish and a metallic one, so request a video when identification is uncertain.
Choosing and Observing Yamabuki Ogon
Compare color consistency and luster, with special attention to the head and shoulders. A strong yellow tone does not by itself predict unwanted red spots, and paler color is not automatically a safer purchase. The fact that a fish is visible in green water does not establish water quality. Assess the fish's condition and your system before focusing on color.
