A cartoon fantasy about an enchanted washing machine and a koi who loses his sparkle.
In a cartoon pond where laundry day could involve almost anything, Jacob was famous for his sparkling scales. Mrs. Finns was famous for her enormous enchanted washing machine. Unfortunately, those two reputations were about to collide.
Mrs. Finns had declared a pond-wide laundry day. Her magical machine churned, bubbled and swallowed scarves faster than anyone could collect them. Jacob came too close to investigate and found himself caught in the swirling current.
In a hilarious mishap, Jacob was swept up in the current and tumbled headfirst into the swirling vortex of the washing machine. Round and round he went, his scales clinking like coins in a piggy bank as they collided with the machine's agitator.
When the tumult finally subsided and Mrs. Finns opened the lid of the washing machine, she was met with a sight that left her speechless. There, amidst the laundry, floated Jacob, completely devoid of his once-glistening scales.
News of Jacob’s mishap rippled through the pond. His friends stared at the empty spaces where his cartoon glitter-scales had been. Mrs. Finns checked the laundry twice and found only an unusually sparkling pair of socks.
But Jacob, ever the optimist, refused to let his scale-less state dampen his spirits. With a flick of his tail and a hearty laugh, he declared himself the newest member of the "Naked Fish Club" and embarked on a quest to reclaim his lost scales.
Jacob tried a costume of imitation scales made from shiny odds and ends, then set off in search of the missing originals. The costume glittered splendidly. It also rattled every time he turned.
After months of searching with no success, Jacob slowly began to realize that his true beauty lay not in his shimmering scales, but in the laughter and joy he brought to those around him. And so, with a newfound sense of self-confidence, Jacob returned to his home in his corner of the pond. His scales may have been lost in the laundry chaos, but his spirit shone brighter than ever before.
The pond still loved Jacob’s stories, especially the one about the rattling costume. As for Mrs. Finns’ machine, it never lost its mysterious sparkle. She blamed the detergent. The fish preferred a better explanation.
